As a SLEEK ULTRA FIT PILATES PRO I espouse the wisdom of the classic pilates tradition firmly steeped in an inspirational legacy while fostering a commitment to my own personal explorations, creativity and innovation. You may have only recently learned about the pilates method but this unique somatic modality began nearly a century ago in Europe initiated by a German exercise enthusiast and counselor. The founder of pilates, Joseph H. Pilates, began this therapeutic and moving art at first seeking to strengthen his own ailments and then later working with injured veterans of WWI, helping wounded soldiers recover losses they had sustained in the war. Mr. Pilates revamped furniture he found in his environment. He reconstituted hospital beds and chairs rigging them up with spring attachments that he designed to help those injured in combat recoup strength and functionality they lost. He then brought his strengthening methods to athletes, dancers and interested enthusiasts. After the devastation of WWII Joseph left Europe and moved to America opening the first American pilates studio in New York City where he further developed his method working with professional American dancers like Martha Graham, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. Joseph wrote a book on his philosophy of physical conditioning and called his original method “Contrology” which has since evolved into what is commonly known today as the pilates method.
Today many professional athletes & celebrities practice pilates not just to stay slim & fit but injury free at the top of their game ready for whatever opportunities come their way.
A SLEEK ULTRA FIT PILATES PRO fosters a view of the whole and balanced, empowered and free individual, engendering one body, mind and spirit. Thus, a fitness program to be the best must be more than just a workout. As a SLEEK ULTRA FIT PILATES PRO I promote this holistic vision developing a pedagogy based of my personal and professional experience of over three decades teaching as well as my comprehensive background in somatic studies including knowledge of applied kinesiology and biomechanics. I am a former professional dancer with a Master of Fines Arts degree in Choreography and Somatic Studies. I have been told that I am an exceptionally gifted and empathic instructor and have earned myriad certifications in pilates, dance, yoga, movement analysis and fitness. I seek to demonstrate and teach a highly qualified ivy league level of understanding in anatomy, optimal body alignments and the physics of dynamic movement.
I am well versed in a host of pilates protocols and all the various types of equipment and props used in pilates to improve the fitness of healthy bodies and to restore better functionality of de-conditioned ones. An avid practitioner, dedicated teacher and consummate learner, I aspire to exemplify a manifest devotion to pilates and the embodied essence of somatic wellness. The joy and enthusiasm I try to exude, promoting and building upon the rich tradition of Joseph H. Pilates, I hope comes through my personal embodiment, professionalism and the personalized mentorship I offer my myriad students and diverse clientele.
At my private pilates equipment studio in North Texas, I diligently orient my heart and mind focusing my vision and compassion toward the particular needs and desires of my many unique pupils. Since research touts the essential significance of cardiovascular exercise for health and longevity, along with traditional pilates exercise methods and therapeutically designed workouts, I try to integrate aerobic fitness techniques designed to stimulate the body, heart and mind systemically into workout designs. With this in mind I have initiated three contemporary formats I believe would make Joseph H. Pilates smile.
Progressive Fitness Designs
The PACE (Pilates Aerobic Core Energy) sessions are designed to integrate the pilates apparatus in a rhythmic dynamic incorporating standing and continuously moving activities to gently stimulate a light intensity cardiovascular effect. The CAP (Core Aerobic Pilates) sessions emphasize the higher cardiovascular potential of the reformer using the jump board. Finally, the CARE (Core Aerobic Rebounder Experience) format integrates pilates inspired movements with higher intensity aerobic intervals jumping vertically, rebounding on a portable rebounder. Research shows that rebounding is gentler on joints, than plyometrics or running. Incorporating intervals of rebounding provides a very effective, highly cardiovascular benefit that helps to strengthen the cardiovascular system without putting additional stress on the joints. In addition, bouncing increases metabolism, a boost most of us can use to maintain a healthy body weight.
