Maureen, studio facilitator and teacher of over 30 years experience as a movement enthusiast, pilates practitioner and somatic longevity coach, welcomes the opportunity to bring this unique conditioning method to new comers, to challenge avid professionals and to inspire peak performing aficionados.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH JUST ONE STEP
Maureen has worked with many dancers, skaters and athletes as well as passionate weekend warriors and individuals living with physical challenges that include arthritis, osteoporosis, scoliosis, fibromyalgia, M.S and M.D. so she understands the many robust talents as well as burdensome conditions that make up the diverse natural abilities that practitioners possess including the many goals and myriad aspirations they bring to the studio. A former dancer with a Masters Degree in Choreography and Somatic Studies, Maureen designs intuitive workouts that flow logically and fluidly from one exercise to another. She seeks to make exercise fresh and transitions seamless. When creating a sequence or progression of exercises Maureen takes into consideration not only the optimal flow of synergistic movements but the precise purpose and somatic objectives of each exercise. Then, as each sequence is performed she attends to and if need be guides the mover toward proper biomechanics, posture and dynamic body alignments. She coaches the mover toward their best proprioceptive engagement and optimal kinesthetic parameters when executing and practicing the precise elements of the form.
THEORY WITH PRACTICE
Maureen’s pedagogy integrates theory with practice. Theory without practice is meaningless, however, practice founded on enlightened theory is technically more effective and more efficient. Working intelligently more likely leads to the reward of positive results, enabling one to reap the fruits of one’s labor and the full benefits of one’s concentrated efforts. Maureen bases her pilates practice on both pilates movement principles and her philosophy of wellness, founded on the belief that practicing some form of physical movement like pilates is the essence of a healthy lifestyle, instrumental to sensations of well being and happiness. She teaches the joy of movement through pilates practice as well as other somatic forms not only to nurture supple fit bodies but to instill a sentiency of freedom, longevity and intuitive awareness.
EMBODIED EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE

Maureen brings decades of movement practice and embodied awareness to the pilates studio. Experiential knowing obtained through traditional dance techniques as well as myriad somatic modalities inspired by exceptional masters such as F. Matthias Alexander, Moshe Feldenkrais, Irmgard Bartenieff, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Mary Whitehouse inform Maureen’s deep understanding of the living, breathing, moving Self and the essential somatic underpinnings of pilates practice. Maureen has earned certifications in various fitness formats including yoga and pilates as well as Laban movement analysis. She has been certified through Idea, AFAA, ACE, Cooper, YogaFit and PhysicalMind Institute.
In her coaching methods Maureen ardently advocates moving with focus and intention to facilitate empowering experiences of embodiment that are intrinsically rewarding, explicitly engaging, both energizing and uplifting, rejuvenating to the whole person and vital Self. As a movement facilitator and somatic coach Maureen espouses her mission to be more than just an exercise leader. To clarify, she explains, “it is my aspiration to inspire my students not only toward the beautiful quintessential body they long to be, but more importantly, to encourage them to seek and appreciate the deeper meaning of a life moved by a holistic practice of movement agency and somatic awareness, that will encourage and support healthy lifestyle choices, dedicated to right action and reflective insight, conducive to happiness and greater overall personal fulfillment.”
